The finalist Cities for the First Youth Winter Olympic Games - Thursday, November 06, 2008 |
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has revealed the finalist Candidate Cities from which will be chosen the host city for the First Youth Winter Olympic Games. They will be hold in 2012. Kuopio and Innsbruck were selected by the IOC last week, and will now be submitted to a postal vote by the IOC members. The host city will be announced by The President of IOC - Jacques Rogge on 12th December 2008. The decision for these two finalists is based on an IOC Evaluation Commission report with President Pernilla Wiberg. The Commission estimated the four projects of Candidate Cities - Innsbruck (Austria), Harbin (China), Lillehammer (Norway) and Kuopio (Finland). The report is focused on the high responsibility for the organizations of the Games for the First edition of Youth Winter Olympic Games. The Candidate Cities will have only three years to plan and prepare this huge project for Olympic Games. The vote will be held these weeks and the members from Austria and Finland are entitled to vote. All other members of IOC will vote for the winning host City election. An independent and certified notary based in Lausanne, Switzerland, will oversee the process to guarantee confidentiality. The city, elected as the host city of the 1st Winter Youth Olympic Games in 2012 will open a new page in the Winter Olympic Games. |

Two days remain until the great Celebration of the British success at the Beijing Olympics. Over 500 British Olympians and Paralympians will celebrate their Beijing success in London on 16 October. Invited are all the athletes. The Celebration ceremony will take part in the streets of London. The Olympians will pass through the streets on 10 specialized trucks and will arrive at Trafalgar Square at lunch time.
The Celebration will memorialize the great success in the British Olympic history - the fourth place in the medalists list. The British sportsmen won in Beijing Summer Olympic games 19 gold, 13 silver and 15 bronze medals. The British Paralympians were even more successful and took the prestige second place behind the Chinese medalist. The UK Paralympic team won 42 gold medals and total 102 medals in 208 Olympiad. The Mayor of London congratulated them with the words: "Our Olympic and Paralympic athletes put in an absolutely brilliant performance in Beijing, bringing us all pride in their great achievement and renewing our confidence for 2012." This statement confirmed the great expectations for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games that the British team will be even more successful and will lead the competition in the overall medals. |

The question for the age of the Gold medalists in the women gymnastics have been raised again, almost week after the Chinese team won the Gold in the Team competition and total 6 of all medals in the Gymnastics in Beijing. Many of the athletes, gymnastics chiefs and the European community have some serious doubts for the age of the Chinese girls and they think they may be under 14 years old. According to the Olympic Games rules the athletes must be 16 or older to have right to compete in the games. The question about the Chinese gymnastics was investigated before the start of the games by the International Olympic committee and the passports of the girl proved their age. Now the Gymnastics Federation will have to double check the age of the women`s team of China and will have to release the conclusion today. Except the passports of the girls they gave the Federation more documents, Birth certificates, identity cards and residency cards for dispel any doubts about the gold medalists’ age. |

The USA beach Volleyball team wins again the final at the Olympics 2008. The team wins with results in the sets : 21 to 18 and 21 to 18. The team - Kerry Walsh and Misty May-Treanor retain their Olympic title from Athens and they made a unique record with not a single lost set in the games. This is the firs time that one team is retaining the Gold two consecutive Olympics in the Beach volleyball. The weather during the final was rainy and the duo from USA used the bad weather conditions as advantage. The China duo: Zhang Xi and Xue Chen took the bronze for great delight of the public, defeating the Brazil`s duo. |

Drug test of the Blonska is positive and she could lose her Silver medal. - Tuesday, August 19, 2008 |
The Silver medalist Liudmila Blonska failed the drug test. The A sample of the athlete is positive for doping and if the B sample confirm the results the medal of Blonska will be taken and she will be punished for second time in the last five years for use of drugs. If this happens the USA`s athlete Hyleas Fountain will be upgraded from third to second place and the fourth Olympian - Tatiana Chernova from Russia will move to bronze. This Thursday the Olympic Committee will rule the Blonska disciplinary hearing in Thursday, before the final of the long jump competition, where Blonska is third in qualifying for the final. If in her first positive doping test in 2003, she was punished according the current rules for anti-doping she will not have the chance to take part in this Olympics, with four years ban. |
